Seventeen In The Soop Show Review
A healing variety show by K-pop boyband Seventeen, where the 13 members find themselves deep within the soop (forest) away from the hustle bustle of the city life.
Seventeen Right here!!!
Group: Seventeen (세븐틴)
Show: In The Soop (인 더 숲 Seventeen편)
Very recently, Seventeen In The Soop season 2 aired, so we are taking a look back at the what the first season gave us and what I loved about it.
But first, for everyone who is new to the Caratland and the Seventeen world, let me introduce you to our 13 favourite boys.
About the group:-
Seventeen are a thirteen member K-pop boy band. Their group consists of three units, the vocal unit, the performance unit and the hip hop unit and they as a whole group are one team. Thirteen members, three units and one team. So the total adds upto seventeen. Hence the name.
The three leaders:- Scoups/Choi Seung-chul (Leader of Seventeen and the hip hop unit, Hoshi/Kwon Soon-young (Leader of the performance unit) and Woozi/Lee Ji-hoon (Leader of the Vocal Unit and music producer for Seventeen).
Remaining members -
Vocal Unit - Yoon Jeong-han, Joshua/Hong Ji-soo, Dokyeom (DK)/Lee Seok-min and Boo Seung-kwan

Hip Hop Unit - Jeon Won-woo, Kim Min-gyu and Chwe Vernon/Chwe Han-sol
The group has 9 Korean nationality members, two Korean American members (Joshua and Vernon) and two Chinese Members (Jun and Minghao).
About the Show:-
Seventeen In The Soop (In the Forest) is a healing show where the thirteen members take a break from the day to day schedules of their hectic boyband life and drive into the middle of a forest and rest at a comfortable lodging in the nature. They cook, eat, do activities and spend time with each other and with themselves and focus on rejuvenating themselves until they need to return to their daily life in Seoul. Watch as the members get extremely comfortable in the peaceful and calming ambience of the forest and nature and find it difficult by the end of the break to return to their busy life.

What I loved as a Carat that each member got to do for the members and for themselves:-
1) Scoups (Our General Leader) - I love that Scoups got to sleep, like a lot. As Carats we know how Scoups is always working hard, for his members, for the Carats, for the entire Team SVT as a leader and for himself. The crazy amount of sleep and rest he got in In the Soop was the best thing that happened to him. He got to eat the best food cooked by his best brothers. Also, whenever the dongsaengs needed help, they would go 'Seung Cheol-ah' and he would pop up there like a genie. That boy really just loves doing everything for his members. He got to play footsal with the members, got to ride a bike with Mingyu, got to go fishing with Wonwoo and Dino and got to cook with DK and Mingyu and Seungkwan.
2) Jeonghan- The members always mention that Jeonghan loves his members and that he only has them. So watching him spend a lot of time with all the members and giving them his attention shows how pure and genuine his love for them is. He took turns to do one activity with every member. Except Joshua. He complained that he couldn't get enough time to spend with Joshua and we as Jihan fans could feel for him. Hopefully he made up for it in Season 2. His footsal with his members, boating with Mingyu, his contribution in the making of the OST, paragliding with Minghao and Vernon, his LEGO sets, late nights talks and jamming sessions with the members, fishing with Mingyu, Dino, Wonwoo and Jun, and many more interactions shows that instead of rest, giving time to his members is healing for him.
3) Joshua- Joshua is a people's person. He could be the busiest person but if any member asks him to spend time with them, he would leave everything at once and go be with that member and while doing so also gives them his entire attention. He got to spend time doing his pottery work and lots of cooking. He basically got a lot of quality time alone. I loved his camping with Hoshi (with s'mores), his late night talk with Woozi about the latter's audition days, footsal with his members (the fact that he isn't into sports but went with the members anyway to spend quality time with them and turned out to be incredible at it. Is there anything Joshua Hong is not good at?), his french toasts and waffles.
4) Jun - The budding chef of Seventeen. We can't call him an amateur anymore, he is a complete chef now. He cooked a variety of dishes for the members and his happiness in feeding them brought us Carats a lot of joy. This boy is just pure and simple. If Seventeen is happy, Jun is happy. In SVT In the Soop, you would either find Jun sleeping, rolling on the bed, in his phone all day or too busy hanging out with just everybody. He went fishing with Jeonghan, Mingyu, Dino and Wonwoo, cooked for almost everyone, had a tea time session with Minghao, Vernon and Wonwoo, did some pottery with Joshua, went on late night talks sessions and jamming sessions with the members and what not. You name it and he did it. That's what he wanted to do since the first interview anyway. Whatever the members wanted to do, he wanted to be part of it.
5) Hoshi - All he wanted was to spend time with his members. He played, lazed around and had lots of fun with Woozi, he went camping with Joshua, he wrote the In the Soop OST with the boys, played footsal with the members and turned out to be one of the Aces, spent time listening to Minghao translate a Chinese book to him, helped with the cooking (as much as he could), begged and aegyeoed with Jun over the phone for some Shabu Shabu, went and rode every means of transport possible. He is such a hyperactive kid. I see a pattern here. The hyung line loved to do what the dongsaengs wanted to do along with them.
6) Wonwoo - Wonwoo is such a sweet boy. Although he loves his alone time, doing what he loves doing, Wonwoo still managed to get involved in many activities with the members. His 12 brothers give him joy and happiness. His fascination with how good his members were at cooking was adorable to watch. He kept throwing compliments at everyone who cooked for him and ate everything heartily. And in almost every episode you would find him doing the dishwashing. His statement that since everyone else did the cooking, he should at least do the dishwashing for them was heart warming to watch and listen to. He was in his zone when he went for the tea time session with Jun, Vernon and Minghao and when he went on a slow walk in the forest with Dino and Jeonghan in the last episode. Him saying it reminded him of his grandmother was wholesome. His building block sessions alone and fishing sessions with the members were comforting. His phone calls with Jeonghan's father and his own father were relaxing to listen to. It shows how close they all are (the members and their families). He did say that the members felt like they had 26 parents whom them could all rely on. This boy is just love and kindness.
7) Woozi- Where was this boy in In The Soop Season 1? He was there while eating Shabu Shabu, he was there while he was working out, while playing and while eating with Hoshi, he was there late night talking with Joshua, he was there composing the In The Soop OST, he was there eating with the members, he was there most of the time on the ATV (his beloved ATV), he was there playing footsal with the members. He was on the screen all the time everywhere but why do I feel like I hadn't seen enough of him.
8) Dokyeom- Dokyeom was like the mama bear of the group. His love for cooking was evident in the show. He cooked as a hobby, because that was healing for him. But he just loved cooking for all the members. Feeding them was his motto. He was like sunshine in the show. Does he ever get tired of smiling all the time? I hope not because watching him smile makes our day. The highlight of DK moments were cooking and racing circuit with Mingyu. You could see that he was doing some different things in the show and he looked forward to them and had fun doing everything he wanted to do.
9) Mingyu- Mingyu, the official chef of Seventeen. All I ever see him doing is cook passionately for his members. I have been watching him cook at all the outings, be it in GoSe, in One Fine Day or now in In The Soop. He cooks like it's his profession. Feeding his members is his side job. In the Soop was no different. Mingyu was in the kitchen with DK and Jun all the time and we loved every minute of it. We wouldn't have it any other way. What I loved was how many new activities Mingyu got to do in the show that we hadn't seen before. I loved his activities like chopping the firewood with DK and Seungcheol, constructing the brick gamasot (traditional Korean Cooking pot) and race circuit with DK, the boat ride with Jeonghan, the fishing session with Jun, Dino, Jeonghan and Wonwoo.
10) The8- Minghao was one of the most creative ones this season. He did many unique things, most of them which he initiated. He literally went into the Soop alone and drowned himself in painting and artwork, took a small tea time session with Vernon, Wonwoo and Jun, enjoyed his ATV time, he was grilling skewers non-stop for the members and the crew, he went paragliding with Jeonghan and Vernon, watched a movie with Vernon in the tent (God that took them an eternity to start but they were adorable trying to figure out the problem with the projector and the movie), read books and translated them for Hoshi, had a hearty meal cooked by Jun. The boy literally went to the show to provide us with content.
11) Seungkwan- Seungkwan is such a hard working kid. The boy was to take a vacation with the members but still ended up going back for work and came back to spend time with his members. The back and forth and still no complaints. And he is so critical of himself. I wish that he is a little easy on himself. He is allowed to eat and not regret. Anyway, coming back to the best moments, his morning jogs and workouts and him scolding himself for giving in to his food temptations were so relatable. His determination to finish reading the book he brought along, him bringing back food for the members from his schedule, the footsal match with the members, his late night talk with Dino (Seungkwan gave off such a hyung vibe with Dino, telling him he was allowed to be the baby of the group and that Dino was maturing too fast), the jamming session with the members at night and his ever lasting love for his Jun hyung and making him sing the pre debut songs, him spending time with every member and making little memories throughout the season were my favourite Boo moments.
12) Vernon- I am so glad Vernon gave us a lot of screen time in the show. He turned into a little boy enjoying every activity he did and it was a joy to watch him enjoy his time in the Soop. Him listening to music on his speakers, his Chinese lessons, his enjoying eating the food cooked by the members (especially the french toast and Jun's cooking), his endless talks on the phone, him watching a movie with Minghao, his book reading, him going for paragliding with Jeonghan and the8, his tea time session with Jun, Wonwoo and Minghao and doing all these things with pure joy and happiness was pleasant to watch and know that Vernon had a healing time.
13) Dino - Our beloved maknae is all grown up but he is still the baby of the group. The 12 hyungs love to tease their maknae but love it even more to pamper him. They just showered him with a crazy amount of love throughout the season. The highlight of Dino moments is his contribution to the In the Soop OST (his talent at spitting out random words spontaneously and turning it into a beautiful song amazes me) and his late night talk with Seungkwan about life, about how he was growing up too quickly, about how he wants to create an image for himself in front of the Carats and how Seungkwan assured him that he is allowed to remain the baby of the group and that the hyungs love taking care of him. Also my favourite Dino moments are first, him almost getting dumped from going to fishing with Wonwoo, Mingyu, Jeonghan and Jun since he was taking his sweet time in getting ready and almost missed the assembling time and second, is him voluntarily agreeing to dishwashing and later finding a pile of unwashed dishes and cursing and laughing along with Mingyu about his decision.
In the Soop was designed to provide a healing time to the 13 boys after the hectic schedule they have had but it sure was a happier and more healing journey for us Carats. Seventeen never fails to provide the best content to us and In the Soop was no different. It was in every way as healing for the carats as it was for the boys. They don't know how grateful we are to them for their hard work, their friendship, their love and their creativity. Their togetherness is the biggest blessing to the Carats and we wish for it to last for the longest time.
P.S. Them doing a hundred different activities but falling in love with the ATV and the thrill it gave them shows how they are all about the simple things in life. That's what we love about Seventeen. They are one of the biggest boy bands in the world right now but all 13 boys are extremely humble and down to earth and simple.
SAY THE NAME, SEVENTEEN.
